Position Summary
The Project Engineer supports the successful planning, coordination, execution, and completion of construction projects. This role serves as a key liaison between project management, field operations, subcontractors, owners, architects, and engineers to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract requirements and quality standards. The Project Engineer assists with project documentation, scheduling, procurement, cost tracking, and communication throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Project Coordination
- Assist the Project Manager and Superintendent with project planning and execution.
- Coordinate activities among owners, architects, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and field personnel.
- Support project startup, closeout, and turnover activities.
- Participate in project meetings and maintain meeting minutes and action items.
Document Control & Administration
- Manage Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, shop drawings, and contract documents.
- Maintain project records, correspondence, logs, and documentation.
- Track document revisions and ensure distribution to appropriate stakeholders.
- Assist with permit applications and regulatory compliance documentation.
Schedule Management
- Monitor project schedules and milestones.
- Identify potential schedule impacts and communicate concerns to project leadership.
- Coordinate material deliveries and subcontractor activities to support project timelines.
- Assist in updating and maintaining project schedules.
Cost Control & Procurement
- Support budget tracking and cost management efforts.
- Assist in preparing purchase orders, subcontract agreements, and change orders.
- Review invoices and subcontractor pay applications for accuracy.
- Monitor material procurement and lead times.
Quality Management
- Assist in implementing project quality control procedures.
- Conduct site inspections and verify work complies with plans, specifications, and standards.
- Track punch list items and support closeout activities.
- Coordinate testing and inspection requirements.
Safety Support
- Promote and support a strong safety culture on all job sites.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
- Participate in safety meetings and site inspections.
- Report and document safety concerns and incidents.
Reporting & Communication
- Prepare project status reports and maintain project dashboards.
- Communicate project updates, risks, and issues to project leadership.
- Support client and stakeholder communication efforts.
- Maintain professional relationships with internal and external project teams.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related field.
Experience
- 2-5 years of construction project engineering, project coordination, or related experience.
- Internship or co-op experience in commercial, industrial, civil, or residential construction preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of construction methods, materials, and industry practices.
- Familiarity with construction contracts, drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Experience with project management software such as Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Primavera P6, or Microsoft Project preferred.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk active construction sites, including uneven terrain, stairs, and ladders.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to work in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions as required.

Work Environment
This position involves a combination of office and construction site work. The Project Engineer may travel between project locations and participate in meetings with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and project teams.
